for everyone

I am writing this review partially in response to Jodi's review at...Night Fall.

I've read every Demille book and look forward to reading his new releases. Like his others I did find this book a very quick read having finished it in two sittings. (I must admit though that due to a back injury I was stuck in bed for four days).

About one-third through the book I thought I figured out the ending. With each page it looked like my suspicion was going to be correct so much of suspense of this book wasn't "what is going to happen next?" but rather "am I right?"

Was my early guess right? Yes. For the most part. 90% right. There was one wrinkle that I never could've guessed because it was ridiculous and as Jodi put it "contrived and I felt he took the easy way out." So despite greatly enjoying 490 out of 500 pages, I was left with a sour taste from the last 10...sour enough to take away one star. (I took away another for the primary ending being predictable.)

If you read the book already and want to know specifics that I didn't include here so as not to ruin the story for others send me a message.

In summary, if you've read and enjoyed Demille's other books featuring Detective John Corey (The Lion's Game and Plum Island) you should read this. If not, you should read those two prior to this.

Rather than plagiarize what the book is about you can read the description at Amazon

Michael, I replied on Jodi's post, with a suggestion for a good read. Check it out.

I'm well into Plum Island right now, with The Lion's Game waiting on deck, so we'll see how those two go. So far, Plum Island seems pretty good, but maybe not as good as Charm School and Gold Coast.

I would say even if you already have read it, read Lion's Game again. It seems very different in our post 9/11 world. Just my thoughts...
